For classic spring and summer treks consider the High Atlas Mountains choosing either the Imlil or Azilal regions. Both offer a multitude of routes with an objective of climbing either Mount Toubkal (4,167m) – North Africa’s highest peak, or the Mgoun Massif (4,071m) – the second highest.
For a real off-beat walk, head to the very remote Imilchil region and hike the White River Gorge, staying in truly authentic Berber villages and camping in the gorge at night. This trek is ideal for families in summer months as water levels fall creating natural pools for a refreshing dip.
In winter the Jebel Sahro Mountains are the place to be – under warm Saharan skies with a backdrop of dramatic fairy pinnacles, table mountain mesas, spires and rocky outcrops.
