Separating the Mediterranean and Atlantic coastlines from the Sahara Desert the Atlas Mountains stretch for over 1,600 miles across north-west Africa. It is in southern Morocco, close to Marrakech, that they reach their majestic best. Mainly inhabited by Berbers the Atlas Mountains offer visitors an insight into traditional Moroccan mountain life with dramatic views of pisé and mud brick villages clinging to mountain slopes. From November to April snowcapped peaks rising above verdant valleys are a truly dramatic sight.
The Atlas Mountains are a natural mecca for walkers, drawn by the lure of conquering North Africa’s highest peak, Jebel Toubkal. Other popular High Atlas trekking destinations include the valley of Ait Bougmez and Mgoun Massif, the remote Imilchil plateau and Jebel Siroua. Working with expert Berber mountain guides we offer a range of classic (and some less well-known) Atlas Mountain walks and treks.
Based in and around the foothills of the Atlas we also offer a choice of eight authentic lodges and luxurious Kasbah-style hotels, each ideal for a 3 night break or longer. Choose to pamper yourself on a Spa break, enjoy easy day walks or mule treks, or simply relax by a pool surrounded by lush gardens with a dramatic back-drop of Atlas peaks. Also consider combining a few nights in the Atlas with a luxurious riad in Marrakech or Essaouira to create a fabulous two-centre holiday, or why not combine all three!
