Less than a day’s drive from Marrakech, the Jebel Sahro range lie south of the High Atlas Mountains and are part of the great Sahara Desert. These mountains are one of the few areas close to Europe with a climate ideal for winter trekking.

On foot in these Saharan mountains you will see a remarkable ancient volcanic landscape contorted with strange formations, dramatic pinnacles, table mountain mesas, spires and rocky outcrops.

Day 1 – Arrive Marrakech
Tour starts in Marrakech with an evening visit to the highly animated Djemaa el Fna square, scene of acrobats, musicians and storytellers.

Day 2 – Transfer to Jebel Sahro
A winding route ascends the High Atlas Mountains on our journey to the Jebel Sahro. We see the Ksar of Ait Benhaddou en route and drive along the Valley of 1000 Kasbahs.  We overnight in Tagdilt village, south of Boumalne Dades, and take a short walk.

JST MapDay 3 – Trek to El Mourioul
We are joined by our team of muleteers, mules and cook and start our 4 day wilderness trek, walking from Tagdilt (1,700m) to El Mourioul (2,100m) via Imi n’Ouarge village.

Day 4 – Trek to Wadi of Igli
From El Mourioul we steadily ascend and cross a col – Tizi n’Kouaouch (2,400m) – then witness a distinct change in landscape and scarcity of vegetation. Tonight we camp in an oasis on the edge of the wadi of Igli

Day 5 – Trek to Taoudachte
The scenic highlights of today’s walk are the two amazing upright rock pinnacles named ‘Bab n’Ali’ – translated as the ‘Gates of Ali’. Camping tonight is at another small oasis at Taoudachte (1,300m).

Day 6 – Trek/drive to Tamsahalt
On our last day of walking we continue towards the village of Tamsahalt, arriving at a comfortable Kasbah-style hotel to spend the night in style.

Day 7 – Transfer to Marrakech
Our return journey to Marrakech takes us via N’kob and on a scenic route through the Draa Valley, then past Ouarzazate

Day 8 – Tour ends in Marrakech
